A report was recently published by the Nova Scotia Nurses Union with a forward by Dr. Tamara Daly.
It is time that the debate shifts to acknowledge that people don’t choose to need LTC, much like someone does not choose to need a quadruple bypass. Families and residents need LTC because they can’t remain at home, and therefore they deserve a LTC system that is exceptional. To do so, we must ensure there are enough staff with the right skill mix to support the changing health and social care needs of residents, and to make sure that we don’t lose some of our most talented and committed nurses and other care staff.
